General Education Assessment

General Education refers to the foundational knowledge and skills students are expected to acquire across a broad range of disciplines. Assessment of student learning outcomes occurs at the level of individual General Education courses, which often fall outside of a student's direct field of study and are designed to develop well-rounded individuals. Assessment is focused on evaluating whether students have achieved the desired learning outcomes in six broad areas: English, History, Humanities, Social Science, Natural Science, and Quantitative and Logical Thinking.

The Office of Institutional Performance and Assessment (IPA) offers a range of resources to support faculty in assessing and improving student learning in FSU's General Education curriculum. Faculty are encouraged to use these resources and contact ipa@fsu.edu with any questions.
